Sectoral Trends and Regional Disparities in India 2026 Telugu | GVA, Structural Transformation, APPSC Economics

Sectoral Trends, Structural Changes and Regional Disparities in India:

1. Sectoral Trends

1.1 Sectoral Analysis

  • Sectoral Contribution to GDP or GVA.
  • Sectoral Growth Rates.
  • Sector-wise Employment Distribution.
  • Labour Productivity.
  • Capital Investment.
  • Structural Transformation.
  • Inter-Sectoral Linkages.

1.2 Economic Sectors

Exam Point: Sectoral Growth Rate, Sectoral Share, Employment Share

2. Primary Sector –

2.1 Important Activities

3. Secondary Sector –

3.1 Components

  • Manufacturing.
  • Construction.
  • Electricity Generation and Supply.
  • Gas and Water Supply.
  • Other Utility Services.

3.2 Importance

Industrialisation, Value Addition, Urban Employment, Capital Formation, Export Manufacturing, Infrastructure Developmentకు Secondary Sector దోహదం చేస్తుంది.

3.3 Manufacturing vs Industry

4. Tertiary Sector –

4.1 Major Services

  • Trade and Commerce.
  • Transport and Logistics.
  • Banking and Insurance.

  • Education.
  • Healthcare.
  • Tourism and Hospitality.
  • Professional and Business Services.
  • Public Administration.
  • Real Estate Services.

4.2 Modern Services

IT, ITeS, Financial Services, Research, Consulting, Digital Platforms, Telecommunications

4.3 Traditional Services

Retail Trade, Local Transport, Hotels, Personal Services

5. GDP, GVA, GSDP, NSDP –

5.1 Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

5.2 Gross Value Added (GVA)

GVA = Value of Output − Intermediate Consumption

5.3 GDP and GVA Relationship

GDP at Market Prices = GVA at Basic Prices + Product Taxes − Product Subsidies

5.4 Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP)

5.5 Net State Domestic Product (NSDP)

NSDP = GSDP − Consumption of Fixed Capital

5.6 Per Capita NSDP

Per Capita NSDP = Net State Domestic Product / State Population

Numerical Example

Per Capita NSDP = (₹12 Lakh Crore / 6 Crore Persons)
Per Capita NSDP = ₹2,00,000
Exam Trap: State Per Capita Income

Sectoral GVA Trends

Change = +4.4 Percentage Points

7. New GDP/GVA Base Year – 2022–23

7.1 Why Base Year Revision?

  • Updated Economic Structure.
  • Improved Data Sources.
  • Better Coverage of New Economic Activities.
  • Methodological Improvements.
  • Changes in Sectoral Classification and Measurement.

7.2 Importance for Competitive Exams

7.3 FY 2025–26 Latest Growth

Change = 43.0 − 44.8
Change = −1.8 Percentage Points

8.2 Manufacturing Employment Share Change

Change = 12.1 − 11.6
Change = +0.5 Percentage Point

9. Structural Transformation –

9.1 Traditional Development Pattern

Traditional Structural Transformation
Agriculture-Dominated Economy
↓
Industrialisation and Manufacturing Growth
↓
Expansion of Services Sector
↓
Higher Productivity and Income
Conceptual development pattern, not a universal law.

9.2 India’s Services-Led Development

9.3 Causes

  • Growth of IT and ITeS.
  • Financial Services Expansion.
  • Telecommunications Development.
  • Urbanisation.
  • Higher Education and Skilled Workforce.
  • Global Service Exports.

9.4 Challenges

  • Skill-intensive Employment Requirements.
  • Regional Concentration of Modern Services.
  • Informality in Traditional Services.
  • Unequal Access to Quality Education.
  • Limited Absorption of Low-Skilled Workers.

10. Sectoral Productivity –

10.1 Labour Productivity Formula

Labour Productivity = Sectoral Real GVA / Number of Employed Workers in the Sector

10.2 Numerical Example

Sector A Real GVA ₹500 కోట్లు; Workers 10,000 మంది అయితే:

Productivity = ₹500 Crore / 10,000
Productivity = ₹5 Lakh per Worker

10.3 Sectoral Productivity Gap

10.4 Output Share vs Employment Share

Exam Point: High Employment Share does not necessarily imply High GVA Share.

11. Employment Elasticity of Growth

Employment Elasticity = % Change in Employment / % Change in Real Output

Numerical Example

GDP Growth = 8%; Employment Growth = 2%

Employment Elasticity = 2 / 8
Employment Elasticity = 0.25

11.1 Interpretation

12. Jobless Growth –

12.1 Main Causes

  • Capital-Intensive Production.
  • Automation.
  • Skill Mismatch.
  • Productivity Growth Exceeding Employment Growth.
  • Concentration of Growth in High-Skill Sectors.

12.2 Job-Rich Growth

13. Structural Transformation Theories

13.1 Lewis Dual-Sector Model

13.2 Fei–Ranis Model

13.3 Kuznets Structural Change

Simon Kuznets పరిశోధనలు Economic Growth, Sectoral Shifts, Urbanisation, Income Distribution మధ్య సంబంధాలను విశ్లేషించాయి.

13.4 Engel’s Law

14. Regional Disparities –

14.1 Types of Regional Disparities

  • Inter-State Disparities –
  • Intra-State Disparities –
  • Rural–Urban Disparities.
  • District-Level Disparities.
  • Social and Economic Disparities.

14.2 Why Regional Disparities Matter

ప్రాంతీయ అసమానతలు Migration, Employment, Public Service Delivery, Human Development, Investment Opportunitiesపై ప్రభావం చూపుతాయి.

15. Regional Disparities

15.1 Natural Factors

  • Rainfall Variations.
  • Availability of Water Resources.
  • Mineral Resources.
  • Climate Conditions.
  • Geographical Location.

15.2 Economic Factors

  • Unequal Industrial Investment.
  • Infrastructure Gaps.
  • Transport and Logistics Differences.
  • Access to Markets.
  • Differences in Capital Formation.

15.3 Social Factors

  • Educational Attainment.
  • Healthcare Access.
  • Skill Availability.
  • Social Exclusion.
  • Gender Disparities.

15.4 Institutional Factors

  • Governance Capacity.
  • Policy Implementation.
  • Public Investment.
  • Financial Inclusion.
  • Administrative Coordination.

16. Regional Disparities – Important Theories

16.1 Gunnar Myrdal – Circular and Cumulative Causation

Backwash Effects

Spread Effects

16.2 Albert Hirschman – Unbalanced Growth

16.3 Ragnar Nurkse – Balanced Growth

16.4 François Perroux – Growth Pole Theory

19.3 Coefficient of Variation (CV)

CV = (Standard Deviation / Mean) × 100

Numerical Example

Mean = (100 + 150 + 200) / 3 = 150
